The Office for Reparations have undertaken following initiatives to enhance the livelihood of aggrieved communities of the internal conflict during the year 2024.
1. THREADS FOR HOPE - Providing material support and financial literacy to handloom weavers in Ampara. Read more on the project here>>

3. STITCHING DREAMS - Equipping 40 young women in Sandilipay division, Jaffna with knowledge and technical skills on design and creation of Ari embroidery work. Read more on the project here>>
The Office for Reparations initiated the following Livelihood Development Programs for the year 2023.
COIR BASED BRUSH PRODUCTION - PUTTALAM - Ten internally displaced females were selected and trained by the trainers from Alliance Five (Pvt.) Ltd. for the production of fiber based brushes. Read more on the project here>>
COLORING HANDS - MANNAR - Improved the livelihoods of five heads of women headed families in Mannar District by providing equipment and coloring materials to produce more quality products. Further, three internally displaced families who are engaging in small business of making ekel brooms were provided automatic broom stick finishing machine in order to improve their business. LIGHT FOR LIFE - JAFFNA - Transferred knowledge and technology on candle processing for 25 women headed households in Kopay, Jaffna. Read more on the project here>>
Action taken by the Office for Reparations to comply with the Orders made by the Supreme Court in its judgment dated 12th January 2023 in SCFR Nos. 163/2019, 165/2019, 166/2019, 184/2019, 188/2019, 191/2019, 193/2019, 195/2019, 196/2019, 197/2019, 198/2019, and 293/2019 -
- Victim fund was established with effect from January 19th, 2023 at Bank of Ceylon (BOC), Rajagiriya Branch, Account No. 0090167960, under the title ‘Easter Attack April 2019 – Victim Fund’. The respondents were advised of the account details.

Disbursements will be determined consequent to a needs based evaluation conducted by the Office for Reparations.
3. A Notice calling on persons to contribute to the victims’ fund, was published in the following newspapers on January 29, 2023 – Silumina , Virakesari, Sunday Observer, Lankadeepa, Thinakaran, The Sunday Times. The Notice can be accessed here.
4. Investigations regarding non-payment and underpayment of compensation was completed and submitted to the Hon. Attorney General by letter date March 14, 2023, and can be accessed here.
5. The scheme to make payments from the Victim Fund was formulated in January, 2023 and can be accessed here. Disbursements of monies from the Fund will be determined consequent to a needs based evaluation of persons aggrieved by the attack.

A preliminary discussion was held on 29th May 2023 at the OR, with the participation of the staff of the OR, Executive officials of Alliance Five (Pvt.) Ltd. and Executive Director and the staff of the Muslim Women’s Development Trust (MWDT), Puttalam to discuss the proposal to initiate a Livelihood Development Program for the women in the Puttalam District who were affected by the ethnic conflict.
